Are you looking for a summer internship that goes along with a degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Physics, Industrial Engineering, Computer Engineering, Engineering Technology, Human Factors Engineering, Marine Engineering, International Maritime Business, Environmental Health and Safety Engineering, Technical Communications, Mechanical Engineering or a related Engineering field?
Are you a current college student who is interested in working to assure that hardware and systems are effective, reliable, and maintainable for the customer?
This position can be a (Freshman Technical ST01, Software Technical ST02, Junior Technical ST03, or Senior Technical ST04) based on the candidate’s qualifications and standing as outlined below:
ST01 (Freshman Technical or Administrative Intern)- must be enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program
ST02 (Sophomore Technical or Administrative Intern)- must have completed 30 credit hours by start of internship
ST03 (Junior Technical or Administrative Intern)- must have completed 60 credit hours of college by start of internship
ST04 (Senior Technical or Administrative Intern)- must have completed 90 credit hours of college by start of internship
ST05 (Post-Graduate Technical or Administrative Intern)- must have an undergraduate degree and be enrolled in a graduate degree program (in degree fields listed in Qualifications You Must Have) by start of internship
Qualifications you must have:
The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Currently pursuing a degree in a STEM and/or Engineering field

Qualifications we value:
GPA of 3.0 or higher
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, parts lists, mechanical drawings
Competency in MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Experience with various engineering software applications
Must have the capability to travel among local IDS facilities and to travel on business
Prepare presentations and brief personnel
Possess previous internship or co-op with a defense contractor and/or government agency
Communicate effectively; both oral and written
Ability to influence product design to optimize product supportability
Review technical documentation for accuracy and compliance with existing standards.
Identify concerns, suggest solutions, and follow through to closure
Use database applications.

Whole Life Engineering (WLE) is made up of several disciplines whose main objective is to influence hardware and systems early in their life cycle to assure effective operation, reliability, maintainability and economical ownership by the customer and end user. Additionally, WLE is responsible for providing both local and field level support for globally fielded systems.
Specific WLE disciplines include cost analysis and estimating, reliability and maintainability analysis and assessments, integrated logistics, systems safety engineering, software safety engineering, human factors engineering, risk and opportunity management, field logistics and operations, technical publications and training, and supply support.
