Whole Life Engineering (WLE) is responsible for ensuring our products are Safe, Reliable, Maintainable and delivered on time.  WLE consists of multiple disciplines that support engineering, our program offices and our customers.  Our WLE disciplines participate in the total life cycle of our products from conception to deactivation.  Our focus area is product support, including the following disciplines:  Reliability, System Safety, and Supportability.
 

This job is posted as HYBRID, with a combination of onsite and remote work.  Commuting costs to and from Malbrough are the responsibility of the incumbent.

Job Summary:

We’re an employee-focused team collaborating across departments, including Engineering, Environmental Health & Safety, Supply Chain, Operations, Test & Integration and Production.

As a Principal System Safety Engineer, your responsibilities will include:
Analysis of engineering hardware and electrical drawings and schematics assessing for fault tolerance, latent hazards, and safety requirements compliance
Working with test and tactical operating and maintenance procedures to assure the proper administrative controls are in place
Working across all integrated product teams and lines to properly eliminate hazards or provide effective controls.
Providing leadership in collaborations with Program Management and government approval authorities from program startup through production to demilitarization and disposal backgrounds

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

Performing System Safety Program or Design analyses
Managing a large system safety program or multiple mid-sized safety programs, including:
Monitoring program technical execution,
Interfacing with stakeholders (e.g. customers, program offices, subcontractors, vendors)
Mentoring Jr. Engineers
Preparing Safety Assessment Reports and Safety Program Briefs for Customer Approval
Briefing safety of the program at technical reviews and as part of the safety approval process
Interpreting system requirements, customer specifications and military
standards
Preparing internal and customer reports describing various analyses relevant to the System Safety program
Collaborating across multiple disciplines to gain a full understanding of product architecture and design

Qualifications You Must Have:

Typically Requires:  Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of relevant experience OR an Associate’s Degree and 10 years of relevant experience OR an advanced degree in a related field and minimum 5 years’ relevant experience OR in absence of a college degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required. 
Experience with: System Safety Engineering, System Engineering, Software or Firmware Engineering, or equivalent Safety Engineering experience in Aerospace, Automotive or Medical Device areas

Qualifications We Value:

Strong written, verbal and presentation skills
Strong interpersonal and project management skills, with the ability to manage a safety program and provide direction to supporting safety personnel
Master’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
