Principal Duties, Responsibilities and Accountabilities
A Design Management Engineer is required to support the Head of Design and Deputy Head of Design, in relation to RUKs CAA & MAA Design Organisation Approvals and specifically with respect to addressing Military Air System certification for Civil aircraft types. This role will involve the following:
The demonstration of the applicability of civil aircraft modifications to aircraft on the military aircraft register, in line with the aircraft airworthiness strategy, by identifying and justifying compliance with the Def Stan 00-970 military requirement delta. Support the aircraft Type Airworthiness Authority (TAA) in producing rationale and compliance evidence, including any military delta derived civil special conditions, Certification Review Items (CRIs) or Certification Memos (CM).
Ensure the appropriate airworthiness aspects have been captured by additional certifications plans, including alternative means of compliance and where necessary incorporated into the design, and that any remaining non-compliances are highlighted to the Customer to ensure acceptance by the Duty Holder Chain. Reconcile additional design requirements against each modification and ensure civil certification documentation is appropriately updated with applicability statement and any associated military limitations. Coordination will be required with aircraft discipline Subject Matter experts. Update the design Exposition and procedures to capture the new Military Air System certification support process.
In addition the role may include:
Researching regulation and advising engineering on compliance matters, and identifying procedure or contract changes needed to comply. Maintaining the design procedure set and compliance matrices. Integration of new design processes and tools within the design procedures.
The preparation for internal and external design audits, and addressing internal and external audit findings and improvement opportunities.
Technical review of aircraft design build standards, and the preparation of CAA 21.J Permit to Fly or DAOS Military Permit to Fly certificates.
Support the approval of design subcontractors: audits, work package description, monitoring, and the liaison with supply chain and commercial.
Interface of the design organisation with the customer authority with respect to design document deliverables. Backup to the Coordinating Design Organisation Support Engineer with in service design queries, and support to customer Configuration Control Board and Local Technical Committee meetings.
Deriving performance metrics and investigations from company occurrence reporting for Design as part of the company Safety Management System (SMS)
Functional Responsibilities
Close liaison with Head and Deputy Head of Design and the Office of Airworthiness. Collaboration and support to the wider engineering community. Adherence to, and development of, best practice process.
Candidate Specification
Qualifications
Degree Qualified in a relevant subject, e.g. Aeronautics, Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics, or equivalent relevant experience.
Membership of a Professional body.
Experience
Knowledge of MAA regulations and Def Stan 00-970, Part 21 DOA, aircraft airworthiness regulations and interfaces with maintenance and Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisations.
Adequate knowledge of multiple aerospace design disciplines.
Experience with Product Data Management tools.
Personal Characteristics
Attention to detail and process adherence.
Good inter personal and communication skills.
Recognise the need for regular, concise and objective status reporting.
Eligible for or Holder of current SC security clearance (RSL will sponsor as required).
