The Pratt & Whitney Engineering organization is focused on delivering customer requirements, advancing market-differentiating technologies, leading continuous improvement, and developing technical leadership. The Mechanical Systems, Externals and Nacelles (MSEN) Engineering Module Center is responsible for design, validation, manufacture, and delivery of most of the engine hardware. This includes Nacelle and thrust reverser systems, External plumbing, components, and ducts, The Lubrication and Thermal Management Systems, the rotor support hardware including bearings, seals, and the Fan Drive Gear System.
Pratt & Whitney MSEN Module Center is seeking a goal oriented, detail-focused Design Engineer to work for our Advanced Military Team based in East Hartford, CT. The selected candidate will be in a fast-paced environment, working with experienced design engineers on conceptual, preliminary and detail design activities related to military engine architectures. The individual will learn about what is required in the overall design process of parts for engines including new and existing designs.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop technical solutions to integrate mechanical systems hardware into current engine studies. Mechanical Systems & Externals hardware includes bearings, seals, supports, stack hardware, tubes, brackets, mounts, harnesses, etc. with the opportunity to design a variety of components within the engine.
Execute design process following Engineering Standard Work, reporting compliance and deviations.
Potential to support design leads in overarching efforts such as additive manufacturing, interface coordination, and cross-section management, etc.
Learn and apply sophisticated solid modeling and analysis tools in a highly proficient manner.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent experience and 8+ years of Mechanical Design or Aerospace engineering experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field and 5+ years of Mechanical Design engineering experience.
US Citizenship or US Person Status required due to government contracts.
Able to obtain and maintain a US Government Security Clearance.
Travel at 5%
Preferred Qualifications:
Exceptional interpersonal skills, cultural awareness, and consistent record of collaboration, flexibility, innovation, and initiative.
Experience with CAD solid modeling (UG NX) and finite element analysis tools (i.e., Ansys).
Proven communication and teaming skills.
Ability to interface effectively with both internal and external customers.
Strong hands-on ability.
Proficiency in Teamcenter or other PLM system.
Prior gas turbine experience and strong aptitude in working in a virtual 3D environment.
Ability to solve technical problems with minimal direction.
Understanding of hardware, blueprints, dimensions & tolerances, and manufacturing methods.
Active US Government Security Clearance a plus.
