GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF JOB PURPOSE
Pratt & Whitney’s Puerto Rico is seeking a goal oriented, detail-focus Structures Engineer to work on existing and next generation of commercial and military gas turbine engines. Engineer would provide analytical support for repair development and substantiation. Possible opportunities include Military and Commercial Airfoils, Rotors and Static Hardware. Structures Engineer will apply scientific principles to analyze, innovate, design, develop, and implement technologies, components, sub-systems, machines, tools, and systems to ensure compliance to specifications, requirements, and customer guarantees across applicable operating conditions. Ensures novel ideas and implementations are captured and protected using applicable IP processes and tools.
Based on business needs, the incumbent may be required to support other duties/functions within the company and have availability to travel up to 10%
MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES OR TASKS
Provide Structural support to military or commercial engine components through all Product Development Phases.
Perform difficult finite element analysis for stress, deflection, vibration, determination of low and high cycle fatigue life and residual life (fracture mechanics) prediction. Stress and life changes after repairs/ damage tolerance
Participate on multi-discipline integrated product teams as the structures focal, providing design solutions that balance customer requirements for durability, performance, cost and weight
Coordinate with others new ways to advance technology and improve processes as an individual and as a team contributor. Embrace a continuous improvement philosophy
Document and present results to management and external customers.
Actively participate in quality initiatives for continuous improvement using Costumer Oriented Results and Excellence operating system (CORE) tools and support AS9100 efforts.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree on Mechanical, Civil, Structural and Aerospace Engineering
2+ years of experience in structural analysis or possess an Advanced Degree
Experience with Microsoft Office applications
English fluency (verbal and written)
US Citizenship required due to government contracts
Ability to obtain and maintain US government security clearances

Strong communication, interpersonal, time management and organizational skills
Team oriented and cultural awareness
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Experience with software and programing languages. ANSYS, Workbench, ABAQUS, PATRAN / NASTRAN, APDL, MATLAB, VBA, Python, C++, Fortran, MS Office, NX Teamcenter and SAP
The ability to craft clear communication and build positive relationships.
