Northrop Grumman’s Business Systems team is seeking a Sr. Principal Software Development Analyst to join our team and lead the strategy for our enterprise Digital Accessibility Program. This resource will provide the program’s central oversight, technical leadership, expert guidance, coordination, and overall program support. The Analyst will increase user experiences by promoting, assessing, and maintaining the digital accessibility of business systems highly used platforms and services, while continuing to build and advance the Assistive Technology Resource Suite (ATRS) to support employees with disabilities IT related Workplace Accommodations.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), Section 508, and Assistive Technology to deliver flexible responsive user-centered technology at the speed of mission.
This position will report to the Business Systems User Experience (UX) Manager and will be a virtual teleworking position. Occasional travel may be required.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Provide consultation on Section 508 and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) guidelines to stakeholders for digital products and platforms to identify and address current or potential accessibility barriers
Collaborates with business partners to ensure accessibility standards are met throughout the design, development, testing of products, and recommends solutions that WCAG A & AA Compliant
Demonstrates passion for a11yship and inclusive UX design
Be an authority empowered to enforce digital accessibility compliance and establish enterprise digital accessibility goals, priorities, and strategies
Define, evaluate, and document digital accessibility requirements for new IT investments
Promote and implement accessibility policies, procedures, and education through formal and informal training
Plan and prioritize digital accessibility activities and actions for enterprise websites and business systems.
Partner with the UX and development teams to integrate accessibility into products and artifacts
Lead efforts to identify compliant external vendors and accessibility tools needed to achieve accessibility goals.
Manage accessibility issues and ensure that business solutions are accessible when released into the enterprise.
Provide accessibility consulting throughout all phases of the software development lifecycle (DevOps).
Manage and maintain internal and external digital accessibility resources and products
Conduct accessibility testing against WCAG 2.0 success criteria and federal requirements and work with content owners to ensure compliance and progress towards compliance goals.
Actively seek information on latest developments regarding accessible best practices and legal requirements
Attend annual industry Accessibility conferences and summits.
Provide digital accessibility progress and status to senior leadership and stakeholders.
Manage a portfolio of assistive technology tools and services
Perform accessibility evaluations of websites, applications, mobile apps, and other emerging platforms using accessibility testing tools, assistive technology and manual analysis
Clearly document accessibility findings and recommendations
Assist the development and documentation of accessible architectures, roadmaps, and investments
Knowledge, Skills and Ability:
Applies extensive technical expertise and has full knowledge of related disciplines.
Able to communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings.
Commitment to digital accessibility and knowledge of accessibility best practices.
Knowledge of accessibility compliance and legal requirements for provision of workplace accessibility services.
Knowledge of how accessible technology is used and applied throughout the project life cycle to include requirements, design, construction/coding, and testing phases.
Knowledge and skills regarding a wide range of assistive technology.
Commitment to professional development relating to assistive technology, digital accessibility laws and regulations, and other emerging technologies related to digital accessibility
Ability to train individuals and groups on digital accessibility concepts and assistive technology solutions.
Ability to efficiently multi-task and prioritize work under time constraints.
Demonstrate strong leadership skills and initiative in assessing IT accessibility compliance and provide recommended course of action and ensure successful execution.
Bachelor’s degree in related program with 10 years related work experience, or master’s degree in related program with 5 years related work experience.
Extensive knowledge and experience applying Section 508 and WCAG standards and guidelines in a company environment.
Knowledge of variety of technologies such as: web-based applications, mobile applications, COTS, SaaS applications, etc.
Experience with web-based accessibility analysis, design and/or development.
Experience in establishing processes, policies, and procedures to assess, monitor and validate digital accessibility compliance.
Experience and/or knowledge of assistive technologies (ex. JAWS, Dragon, etc.).
Experience in guiding small teams on the integration of digital accessibility throughout the project lifecycle.
Experience in software engineering and/or testing to make recommendations for improvements.
Self-starter with the ability to independently resolve issues and deliver results.
Ability to work effectively in a virtual work environment.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to present in a clear and concise manner to all levels of the organization.
Comfortable working in agile development; familiar with continuous delivery model of software development.
IT process knowledge in large complex organizations.
DHS Trusted Tester, CPACC, and/or WAS certifications.
Ability to influence others to action who are not direct reports.
Ability to support multiple projects concurrently based on priority and criticality.
Ability to implement both strategy and tactical needs of the business.
Salary Range: $114,300 USD – $171,500 USD
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
