SSSD has an opening for a Mechanical Technician 2 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, California.

Performs a variety of duties assisting mechanical engineers in the development of mechanical and electromechanical engineering designs, tests, fabrications, modifications, assemblies and components. Drafts detailed drawings for fabrication. Devices, fabricates, and assembles new or modified mechanical components or assemblies. Sets up and tests complete prototype units and subassemblies under operational conditions. Analyzes data and recommends modifications to components or test procedure to meet desired specifications.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

The applicant would be supporting the Advanced Manufacturing and Machine operations (AMMO), Soldering and Glassing area.  The responsibilities would include but are not limited to Hybrid housing post-plate bakeout, thread verification, lid seal surface deburring, insert / shroud / dowel pin installation, burnishing / removal of loose (non-adherent) plating, ultrasonic cleaning, feedthru masking / soldering / demasking, leak check, touch-up, rework, and repair in the solder / glassing work cell supporting hybrids mechanical manufacturing.

The applicant must be able to work well in a team environment and work well under pressure.

Basic Qualifications

High School Diploma
2-4 years overall work experience within a manufacturing environment
Hands on Manufacturing Experience
Multi-task, the Ability to work on more than one thing at a time
Must have a high attention to detail
Must be able to work well in a team
Blueprint reading fundamentals are required or the aptitude to learn blueprint reading.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a manufacturing, assembly, or machining position.
Space Industry experience
Experience working under a microscope for extended periods of time
Proficient using Microsoft office applications such as excel and word
Familiar with Continuous Improvement, Lean Manufacturing and 5S Principles

Salary Range: $51,800 USD – $86,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
