Northrop Grumman is seeking Mechanical, Structural, or Aerospace Engineers for an internship opportunity. This position will be located at our Mission Systems Sector in (Linthicum Heights, MD at the Baltimore Washington Thurgood Marshall International Airport).

The qualified candidate will become part of Northrop Grumman’s Flight Test Engineering team, performing a variety of engineering work including aircraft structural design, analysis, modifications, and integration of test sensors, antennae, cameras, radars, workstations, equipment racks and avionics.  The qualified candidate will also be involved in various other activities that support our standard process, developing and revising work instructions, developing job aids, tools, support equipment, and associated models, drawings, plans, etc.

The Flight Test operating unit deals with the design, modification, integration, testing and certification of surveillance and communication technologies onto manned, special mission commercial-derivative aircraft.  The candidate will maintain an active involvement in every step throughout the lifecycle of the modification, integration, and airworthiness certification process once a project is initiated.

Basic Qualifications

A candidate must meet ALL of the below criteria. The candidate must:

Be a student who is enrolled full-time and pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited college/university and will be enrolled full time in Summer 2023
Be majoring in or having majored in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) degree, specifically in the Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering or Aerospace Engineering disciplines.  Other engineering or STEM disciplines may be considered
Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 or higher (unofficial academic transcripts must be provided at time of application by uploading the documents to your application or profile)
Be available to work full-time (40 hours per week) for at least 10 weeks during summer 2023.
Be able to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite)
Be proficient with Microsoft Office software
Prior experience using Computer Aided Design and/or Finite Element Modeling software

Preferred Qualifications: 

Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.70/4.0 or higher
Previous internship/co-op experience, leadership & teamwork capabilities, interpersonal communication skills, and activities
Previous experience or foundational knowledge of aviation, specifically with fixed wing turbine aircraft
Good presentation and writing/communication skills
Self-motivated, willing to learn, and interested in working in a fast paced, high performing team environment
Possess an understanding of standard engineering drawing conventions.

Pay Range:

$22.75 per hour to $29.25 per hour

At Northrop Grumman, our internship pay rates are standardized and take into account three main factors: the anticipated graduation date of the individual, the cost of labor of the geographic location, and whether the internship is considered technical or administrative.


Salary Range: $1 USD – $1 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
