Northrop Grumman is in need of a Principal Manufacturing Energetics Engineer to work at its Elkton, Maryland facility.
Basic knowledge of welding and joining procedures.
Basic knowledge or experience troubleshooting welding/joining processes and production of products to meet detailed technical specifications
Basic knowledge of professional engineering concepts, principles, practices, and procedures, as demonstrated by experience researching, designing, testing, analyzing, verifying, and validating mechanical engineering solutions
Demonstrated knowledge of welding/joining processes used in manufacturing as well as processes or approaches used to optimize welding processes.
Demonstrated written communication abilities.
Demonstrated knowledge of laser and/or electron beam welding methods
Develop, optimize, and qualify weld processes and parameters for multiple welding processes including but not limited to: electron beam welding, laser beam welding, gas tungsten arc welding, orbital tube welding, resistance welding, gas metal arc welding, friction stir welding, and plasma arc welding
Support production operations on full scale welded assemblies, providing direction to manufacturing engineers and welders on correct techniques
Support design, manufacturing, and materials engineering with root cause analysis
Work closely with design, tooling, automation, and development engineers to improve welded designs for manufacturing
Set up welding qualification test campaigns and interpret mechanical testing and NDE results
Work closely with NDE personnel to interpret weld quality on development and flight hardware in addition to developing and implementing innovative state-of-the-art NDE techniques
Develop and implement improved process control where possible using test and NDE results as feedback loop
Set up automated welding solutions in an effort to drive process consistency
Scope out new welding technologies that may be employed to improve rate/quality/efficiency

Must have 9 years of experience. Will consider a bachelors degree with 5 years of experience or a masters degree with 3 years of experience
Experience in a manufacturing environment
Must be a US citizen
Must have or be able to obtain an interim US DoD Secret Clearance to start (this can be done during the on-boarding process for those without an active interim or full secret clearance)
Must be able to obtain a full US DoD Secret Clearance
Salary Range: $99,800 USD – $149,800 USD
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
