Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Sr. Staff Engineer Systems Architect to join the Systems Engineering Team (SET). This position is in Roy, UT and supports the Sentinel program.   

What You’ll Get To Do:

Lead the standup and growth of multiple large scale software factories used by software teams
Develop and maintain continuous build, continuous integration, continuous test, and continuous deployment pipeline systems
Utilize strong communication skills to work with Software IPT, chief engineers, and development teams
Maintain continuous operation of multi-user systems, including coordination with network administrators.  
The selected candidate should thrive in an environment with, diverse assignments and collaborative/team settings across all levels
Support Agile Software/Hardware teams on pipeline builds, software installation, troubleshooting, and performance monitoring of the Software build *Integration*
Ensures metrics and data holistically make sense for the program horizontally and vertically (align with reality – able to sense-make)
Supports overall resolution of analysis of alternatives for complex technical issues on program as delegated
Ensures software mission operational needs meets system capabilities, and constraints including stakeholder analysis and development of system architecture trades to meet mission capability
Evaluates issues across software interfaces and strategically drives software design margin consistent with planned risk handling in partnership with the Office of Chief Engineer and IFC Lead
Performs trade studies, RFIs, writes white papers, and provides technical responses as needed to make an architectural decision or to prove an approach
Identifies and elevates risks/issues, schedule impacts as appropriate
This role will interface with the Chief Architect and Chief Software Engineer to understand and execute their technical direction with the various IPT software and architecture teams.
Work with IPTs to determine the time phasing of architectural features and design parameters in the IFC plan.
This role will interface with the MBRIA team and Thread Leads to understand the system-level capabilities and develop the plan needed to time phase them and ensure the operational end state of the weapon system is met.
Documents the overall program software strategy determined from the preceding activities including all assumptions, & decisions (along with the rationale for any decisions or tailoring)
Reviews and assesses program Software Change Requests (technical, and cost/schedule) impacts as delegated from the Software Chief Engineer
Supports strategic down and in execution of the systems and software program strategic IFC Roadmap of behalf of the IFC lead and Chief Software Engineer, ensuring appropriate functional intent is met
Performs technical coordination with architects and system engineers on software functionality and clarification to ensure end to end software planning is on track, meets appropriate level of rigor for Design Assurance Level, and Criticality
Ensures software designs, including supplier furnished data, conform to the program established architecture and requirements baseline unless divergence is authorized by the responsible technical change control authority
Provides down and in horizontal visibility and heading checks of software development, as required, during planning, horizontal integration, and buildup of IFC and Milestone execution
Provides support for Joint Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Architecture, Mission Defense, and other joint technical working groups as necessary
Supports and/or presents senior level technical discussions as needed, with the ability to explain impacts of technical decisions at both senior executive level and deep technical level customer meetings/boards as required (i.e. Milestone Program Event reviews, IFC lockdowns, Technical Review Boards, etc) which may include customer representatives

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This position may include relocation assistance

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s of Science degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with a minimum14 years of software development or systems engineering experience; 12 years with a Master’s; or 18 years of experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree
Active Secret clearance with adjudication within the past 6 years and the ability to obtain Special Program Access (SAP)
Experience with containers and orchestration using Docker or Kubernetes and/or automation scripting to improve operational efficiencies
Experience with software development build tools (i.e., Maven, Ant) and continuous integration environments (i.e., Jenkins,TeamCity, GitLab)
Extensive experience in Linux/ Windows Administration, experience with Virtualization technology
Experience administering and configuring the full Atlassian tool suite (Confluence, JIRA, GIT, Crucible, FishEye, Crowd)
Ability to obtain a DoD 8570 IAT II (ie. Security+ CE, SSCP, GSEC, etc) certification within the first 90 days
Proven Agile or SAFE experience on a large-scale program

Preferred Qualifications:

Keen understanding of the software development life cycle
Experience with PlatformOne.
Extensive experience with automation/configuration management using either Ansible, Chef or an equivalent
Experience or Certification with AWS technology.
Experience with developing formal builds within the DoD industry
Certification from VMWare
Current DoD 8570 IAT II certification
An active Top Secret clearance with adjudication within the past 5 years


Salary Range: $154,300 USD – $231,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
