Production Quality Engineering Manager

Job Description:

Northrop Grumman Marine Systems is seeking a Production Quality Engineering Manager to lead a team of Quality Engineers and Analysts that directly support our Machinery and Launcher manufacturing/production areas in Sunnyvale, CA.  The manager will be a key leader of the Marine Systems Quality and Mission Excellence (QME) team, driving Continuous Improvement activity in the manufacturing areas.  They must be committed to employee development, fostering a collaborative culture, and must be committed to achieving high levels of customer satisfaction.

Role and Responsibilities:

Provides overall management of the Production QE team by setting and operating to objectives, and providing guidance to direct reports based on goals, objectives, and company policy.
Collaborates with Manufacturing, Program Quality Engineering, Design Engineering, and Supplier Performance Management/Supplier Quality to ensure quality is inherent in every requirement, design, work product, and end-product delivered by Northrop Grumman
Leads root cause and corrective action analyses (RCCA) and failure investigations for high impact issues in the production areas and teaches/coaches/mentors personnel in use of RCCA for lower level issues
Engages with the engineering and production teams on the shop floor and in work activities to provide direct support to as needed while coaching and mentoring personnel in quality methods and procedures
Establishes and manages performance metrics to facilitate continuous improvement activities
Establishes and maintains compliance with Quality Management System (QMS) policies, procedures, and processes to ensure the performance and quality of products conform to established standards, specifications and customer requirements
Leads efforts to identify and mitigate quality and performance risks using advanced product quality planning (APQP) methods, FMEAs, and early design and supplier engagement
Frequently interfaces with customer representatives, including on-site DCMA and Customer representatives, concerning projects and requirements/contractual clarifications.
Ensures compliance through establishment and execution of internal surveillances and audits
Provides performance reviews and periodic feedback for all direct reports
Develops and operates within departmental budgets 

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field
At least 8 years of related experience within a manufacturing environment (Manager 2).
Ability to demonstrate a high level of understanding concerning Quality Assurance, Product Assurance and Mission Assurance. 
Excellent oral and written communication, data analysis and problem solving skills
Ability to successfully engage on the shop floor to provide solutions and coach and mentor others in the use of quality principles and practices
Ability to establish and maintain comprehensive quality management systems
Ability to document, plan and manage projects
Demonstrated problems solving skills in a manufacturing environment
Demonstrated ability to work with minimal oversight and in a multi-discipline team environment, providing insight and solutions to complicated technical issues
Strong interpersonal skills and able to work and lead effectively in a team setting
Ability to travel up to 10%
Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Secret security clearance (US Citizenship required)

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with ISO 9001 or AS9100 based quality management systems
Experience with NDT inspection
Experience conducting or managing internal audits
Extensive prior work experience in the application of quality principles and practices (e.g., quality engineering, inspection, material review, etc.) related to the engineering and manufacture of machinery and structures
Experience with supplier quality and risk reduction
Active/Current DoD Secret clearance with ability to obtain Top Secret.

Salary Range: $122,200 USD – $183,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
