Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (NGAS) has an opening for a Sr. Metrology Programming (Principal) Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Beavercreek (Dayton), OH facility. We are a world-class manufacturer of composite structures, radomes, and antenna systems for military applications. We design and manufacturer solutions for our war fighters to keep our country safe and maintain peace on a global scale.
Our mechanical engineering group works on state-of-the-art designs, primarily for classified applications, in both team and individual settings. Our multi-faceted team consists of engineers and scientist with backgrounds in electrical engineering, LO technology, CEM, RF test, mechanical, structural, thermal, CFD, material science, process, metrology, and quality. Our team enjoys both theoretical design and hands-on engineering tasks.
The Sr. Metrology Programming Engineer will be part of the CNC and CMM Programming team, reporting to the Manager of Mechanical Engineering. We deliver our internal customers a great team experience, from first request to development code, then production released code. So together, we exceed our customer’s expectations for product quality and performance.
The ideal candidate will be a self-sufficient, problem solver, with determination and a positive attitude. He / She will have good interpersonal communication and people skills needed to work with key stakeholders within other engineering disciplines to achieve program objectives in a timely manner. *This is a first shift position working a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off.
Essential Functions / Responsibilities:
Creates programs and report templates for CMM and Leica Trackers to inspect items ranging from small metallic and non-metallic products to room size aircraft composite structures and related hard tooling
Leads engineering efforts related CMM
Mentors’ other engineers and Quality Inspectors
Works with Design Engineers, Quality Engineers, Quality Inspectors, and CNC Machining to develop measurement systems and techniques
Helps troubleshoot equipment and product issues
Designs fixtures, gauges and tools for inspection
Works with the Quality Lab manager to select, procure, and commission inspection equipment and software
Prepares proposal estimates
Additional work responsibilities may include task planning and conducting technical peer reviews
Bachelor’s degree in science with 9 Years of related experience; Master’s degree with 7 Years of related experience, PHD with 4 years related experience
Experience mentoring other engineers
Experience programming with CMMs
Experience in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and drawing interpretation
Experience in 3D modeling for tooling set-up
Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance, including Special Access Program within a reasonable period
Active DoD Secret Security Clearance, or higher
Bachelor’s degree in science in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Aerospace Engineering Technology, or Aeronautics
5 years’ experience using PolyWorks
10 years’ experience in programming with CMMs
5 years of experience designing fixturing and tooling for Inspection
Experience with Mitutoyo 122010 and 910 CMMs
Experience programming or operating Leica Trackers
Experience with 3D modeling with Siemens NX or CATIA
Salary Range: $107,000 USD – $160,400 USD
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
