Northrop Grumman is seeking a System Engineer to perform infrastructure design, maintenance, system administration and cyber security of a software development infrastructure supporting submarine training systems for the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport, RI.  You will work with latest generation hardware, virtualization, containerization, and software development/deployment/operation tools.  You will contribute to the design, development, implementation, and deployment of simulation/stimulation-based training systems.

Job Responsibilities:

The responsibilities for this position are to design, maintain, and secure development infrastructure supporting developers to build and deploy training systems that support both the Naval Submarine and Surface Ship fleets.


General system administration and user support
Design computer systems and networks for development infrastructure
Install, maintain, update and secure operating systems including implement DISA STIG compliance
Monitor and test system and network performance to identify and preempt issues and provide possible solutions
Troubleshoot computer systems and networking to diagnose and suggest/implement potential solutions
Support hardware and software installation of IT computing equipment and cabling

Basic Qualifications:

Active Secret Clearance
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or other related field and 9 years’ experience or Masters degree 7 years experience
Experience with Cisco switch/router configuration development and deployment
Experience installing Linux
Experience with Linux operating systems, preferably Red Hat Enterprise Linux RHEL or Community Enterprise Operating System (CentOS) distributions
Experience with Virtualization Hypervisors including VMWare, ESXi and Red Hat Kernel Virtual Machine (KVM) (libvirt/virsh)
Experience installing and maintaining Software Configuration Management (SCM) tools including Git and IBM Clearcase
Able to work on site at Middletown RI.

Preferred Qualifications:

Current IAT Level I Certifications
Linux and Cisco Certifications
Scripting skills (e.g., bash shell scripts)
Networking knowledge (OSI Network Layers, TCP/IP, DHCP)
Computer/Electronics Hardware knowledge
Intel server configurations
Experience with System Build Automation Tools (Linux kickstart, Puppet, Windows Deployment Server (WDS))
Experience with NetApp Storage Appliances.

Salary Range: $123,800 USD – $185,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
