What you’ll get to do:

The Machinery Design Engineering Manager 2 is responsible for providing functional leadership and technical direction to Machinery Research and Development Design team, a mechanical design group which consists of a staff of approximately 10 to 12 Mechanical engineers. Responsibilities include leading a diverse team of mechanical engineers in the areas of Mechanical design and development of the hardware systems for the U.S. Navy. The position responsibilities also include management of time keeping, performance reviews, staffing and resource planning, training, and team engagement. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated aptitude in areas of design of fabricated and machined components, rotating components such as gears, bearings and coupling, system integration, load path and stress analysis, and deflection analysis.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Provide project and technical oversight of research and development design activities performed by the group
Prepare cost estimates, provide proposal inputs, and review proposal content for both internal and external customers
Increasing machinery design engineering competencies through employee development and strategic hiring
Balancing employee needs with business goals
Provide ownership of and direction to the design processes used in the group
Basic understanding of the Design, Manufacturing and Test Integration process
Support department initiatives, forecasting and recruiting, technology roadmap creation, and champion continuous process improvements

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with 9 years of engineering experience; OR a Master Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with 7 years of engineering experience; OR a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with 5 years of engineering experience
US Citizenship, with the ability to receive DoD Secret clearance (or higher)
Strong fundamentals in Design Engineering
Experience in functional/people management
Production issues resolution
Strong leadership qualities, including excellent communication and collaboration, team engagement, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master Degree in Mechanical Engineering and 7 years of engineering or technical management experience
Experience as a Technical Lead, Project Manager, or other demonstrated leadership role related to program execution
Understanding of launcher system principals of operation and design
Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), requirements development, or technical project management experience preferred
Understanding and knowledge of Agile (SCRUM) techniques and activities.
Knowledge of Design Engineering processes, procedures and work instructions required to support both management and engineering tasks
Experience with proposals and Earned Value

Salary Range: $134,600 USD – $201,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
