Northrop Grumman, Strategic Space Systems Division, has an opening for a Manager Engineering 2 for our Industrial Engineering team to join our team of highly qualified and diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, California.

These are highly dynamic, interactive positions. You will interact with numerous stakeholders including program management, flight hardware design and manufacturing engineers, sub-project managers, lab operations, and logistical support services. Outstanding organizational and leadership skills are required to succeed in these roles.

The Planning, Logistics, & Infrastructure Department (PL&I) within Materials, Process, Environmental Test & Logistics (MPET&L) has a need for a Manager Engineering (IE) Section Manager to be a functional homeroom manager, leading a team of individual contributors, and contribute directly to manufacturing areas, program requirements, and functional activities.


Responsible for the direct supervision/management of staff

Responsible for providing objective-oriented direction to subordinates utilizing management guidelines and general policies

Conducting periodic performance evaluations, including mid-year and annual reviews

Providing technical leadership and guidance to the staff

Managing indirect and capital needs

Professional development and mentoring of direct reports

Supporting Functional Homeroom initiatives and projects which include process improvement, Event Response Teams, Corrective, and Preventive Action implementation


Develops and implements plans that ensure the timely availability and effective utilization of labor, facilities, equipment, & tooling resources enabling the achievement of program delivery and cost milestones

Conducts studies pertaining to cost control, cost reduction, inventory control, and production record systems

On the basis of these studies, develops and implements plans and programs for facility modifications and revisions to operating methods

Responsible for updating work instructions, providing performance metrics and make recommendations to improve productivity and efficiency of operations

May assist facilities engineers in the planning and design of facilities

Develops and summarizes analyses for the acquisition, maintenance & enhancement of capital assets and miscellaneous equipment

Provides capacity planning, shop-loading and staffing analysis to functional production teams for Business Unit requirements

Analyzes existing operational processes and develops metrics and reporting to optimize and improve program & operational performance

May be required to split support over more than one product line and manufacturing area, and support multiple program or production managers

Flexible Schedules:  For example, some roles offer the ability to work a 9/80 work schedule, which allows an employee to work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday and take every other Friday off of work

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelors of Science Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline plus 5 years of engineering experience OR Masters of Science Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline plus 3 years of engineering experience.

Proven leadership experience on a project and/or team

experience within an Industrial Engineering or equivalent function

Proficiency with Microsoft office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Outlook)

Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Top Secret Clearance or SCI Access

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in aerospace manufacturing, integration, and test

Active DoD Top Secret Clearance

Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Industrial Engineering or related field

Experience developing dashboards and reports using analytical software applications such as Tableau, Power BI, or Alteryx

Ability to present for functional homeroom and program reviews

Working knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning and Manufacturing Execution software

Salary Range: $134,600 USD – $201,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
