Strategic Space Systems Division has an opening for an to join our team of Staff Data Scientist qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, California.

Responsibilities

Implements machine learning algorithms as part of decision support and recommendation systems for manufacturing, inspection/testing, and other business processes
Monitors existing team-built machine learning models through statistical analyses and maintains such models through parameter tuning and data cleaning activities
Develops pipelines to extract, transform, and load data into alternate structures and formats required to support actionable decision making and business planning
Prepares training data collection plans and data capture methods in support of supervised machine learning models
Conducts detailed evaluations and provides recommendations regarding data capture, analysis, and operations technology in support of data science initiatives
Works with internal customers and stakeholders to develop solution functional requirements and translates high level objectives into detailed action plans
Provides guidance and mentorship to less experienced data engineers and data scientists in the areas of technical contribution, project planning, work execution, and career development
Recommends technology and process-based solutions for developing data engineering pipelines, automating data analyses, and deploying/maintaining custom built models
Organizes high level project plans and leads development activities for specific projects including core architecture, database, integration, and deployment design

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Basic Qualifications

14 Years of work experience with Bachelors in Science; 12 Years with Masters; 9 Years with PhD.
Experience in Python programming language including familiarity with typical data science libraries (e.g. NumPy, SciPy, SciKit Learn, Pandas)
Experience with cloud-based machine learning model development and deployment (e.g AWS)
Experience with deep learning models (e.g. Tensorflow, transfer learning) including familiarity with image classification
Experience with machine learning algorithm selection, hyper parameter tuning, and dense layer optimization
Experience working in an Agile development framework (e.g. Scrum)
Experience with Structured Query Language (SQL) programming (e.g. common table expressions, stored procedure and view preparation)
Experience with a front-end data visualization software (e.g. Tableau, Power BI, Looker) or library (e.g. D3, Matplotlib, Plotly)
Familiarity with basic manufacturing, engineering, and quality assurance concepts

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Natural Language Processing algorithms
Experience working with NoSQL solutions and/or graph databases
Experience using a version control system for code management (e.g. Git, SVN)
Familiarity with continuous integration/continuous deployment systems and pipeline tools (e.g. Azure Dev Ops, Jenkins, Bamboo)
Experience with a project management ticketing software (e.g. Atlassian Jira, Microsoft Azure DevOps).
Experience with advanced manufacturing and quality data processes (e.g. Statistical Process Control, Design of Experiments)

Salary Range: $177,100 USD – $265,700 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
