Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is currently seeking a Principal Systems Engineer (Weapon Systems) to support the development and implementation of Digital Engineering capabilities for the SiAW Program. This role can have three distinct focus areas, so candidates with diverse skillsets who are interested in transitioning into Digital Engineering are strongly encouraged to apply.
This position can be located in our Northridge, CA. site or in our Tucson, AZ site.

Integrated Development Environment (IDE) Infrastructure and Architecture
IDE Applications and Integrations
Digital Engineering Education and Training
The selected candidate will support the identification and solution implementation of software applications within an Integrated Development Environment. These capabilities will drive enhanced collaboration across the engineering lifecycle, from early Systems Engineering, through System and Subsystem Design, and into manufacturing and supply chain as well as modeling and simulation, digital thread, design automation and Dev*Ops.
This position reports to the SiAW Digital Engineering Integrated Product Team and will be part of a larger pathfinder effort to define Digital Engineering for an enterprise family of products. The successful candidate for this role will work with other program IPTs to incorporate Digital Engineering into their day-to-day activities, including direct participation in working sessions, developing artifacts and content, providing guidance, and helping them work through challenges related to adopting Digital Engineering. This position will require onsite work with occasional remote work possible.
Because of the uniqueness of this role, enthusiasm for Digital Transformation is a key attribute for success. The primary responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:
Identify the right Digital Engineering processes and tools to use to solve program challenges
Help program IPTs implement Digital Engineering processes, such as Agile, Dev*Ops, Performance Modeling, Virtual Simulation & Testing, and Model Based Engineering practices and tools
Support geographically separated Agile teams and work effectively with cross-functional and cross-sector individuals within those teams
Help ensure we’re employing Digital Engineering properly to meet customer requirements, e.g. major milestone meetings and CDRL deliveries
Help other engineers and program professionals get up to speed on Digital Engineering and become effective practitioners
Provide informal training on Digital Engineering processes and tools and direct users towards appropriate computer-based or instructor-led training
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree in STEM field with 5 years of experience; Master’s Degree with 3 years of experience; or PhD with 0 years of experience
Must be comfortable working in an Agile team
Must have U.S. Citizenship with active or current DoD Secret level clearance, with eligibility to obtain TS/SCI.
Self-starter with ability to take on complex problems with ambiguity
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong ownership of problems and ability to offer and implement solutions.
Desire to actively work toward process improvement and efficiency
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with collaborating with other engineers and cross-functional teams. Active or current Top Secret Clearance
Ansys Model Center experience
Experience leading technical teams
Familiarity with Digital Engineering concepts such as Digital Threads and Digital Twins, hands-on experience a significant plus
Familiarity with Agile development experience, including use of Atlassian products such as Jira and Confluence
Familiarity with modeling and simulation tools, such as System ToolKit (STK) and Simulink
Familiarity with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and tools such as Cameo
Familiarity developing training and education plans
This position reports to Northridge, CA, USA, however, this position can also be worked from Tucson, AZ, AZ, USA.
Salary Range: $90,400 USD – $157,000 USD
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
