Successful candidates for this position will work in a deputy lead technical role for a space program in Dulles VA, in the NSS business area within the Space Systems Sector. This Systems Engineering role is responsible for assisting the Lead Systems Engineer as a leader of the Systems Engineering technical team, which includes the following duties: systems analysis, coordinating Vehicle Systems engineering activities, engineering baseline management, interface management, requirements/V&V management, subcontractor technical oversight, leading trade studies, defining the mission element design, and translating mission requirements into hardware and software specifications and implementation. The Deputy Lead Systems Engineer will also serve as the Spacecraft Bus Lead, which is responsible for leadership and oversight of a multi-discipline team of subsystem leads through the design, development, integration, and test of the spacecraft bus.
Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems.
Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal.
Lead trade studies for critical technologies and space mission architecture and element design, to include developing supporting documents such as CONOPS and DRMs.
Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
Lead specific subsystem studies, new technology trades, and new interface definitions.
Will transition to bus lead role at the beginning of bus I&T
Interfaces with program management and the customer on a weekly basis and presents technical solutions to a wide range of complex challenges during monthly face to face meetings and major design reviews
support other activities, including architecture studies, mission support, and traditional Systems Engineering functions. I
n this lead role, the Deputy Lead Systems Engineer is expected to be self-directed using previous experience to lead design, analysis and execution efforts.
Recognize and mitigate technical issues and risks while operating within budget and on schedule.
Bachelor’s Degree in STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering, Math or related area and 9+ years of experience, Master’s Degree and 7+ years of experience, or a PhD and 4+ years of experience
Systems engineering experience
Must be a US citizen with an active Top Secret Clearance
Excellent written and oral communications skills and technical presentation experience
Understanding of spacecraft integration & test
Complete understanding and wide application of technical principle, theories, and concepts in the field. General knowledge of other related disciplines
Proactive. Works under only general direction. Independently determines and develops approach to solutions
Experience in the Space Domain and familiarity with space vehicle subsystems and components.
Experience presenting to customers
Experience working with a cross-discipline team
Top Secret / SCI Clearance
Salary Range: $129,700 USD – $194,500 USD
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
