Northrop Grumman Space Launch and Missile Defense Systems (LMDS) Division is a Systems Engineer Manager 2 to join our team of qualified diverse individuals to provide functional management and technical leadership for a team of engineers supporting the National Team for the Missile Defense Systems (MDS) Business Unit (BU) programs in Huntsville, AL.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Functional management for a team of five to ten engineers of varied disciplines (e.g., Systems, Software, Specialty, Architecture); roughly 20% of the time. Technical contributor or task leader in a program role; roughly 80% of the time.
Staffing and workload forecast; employee inclusion, engagement, mentoring and career development; employee training and identification of skills required to execute on MDS programs.
Provide technical guidance/leadership in engineering discipline(s).
Demonstrate a commitment to ethics and integrity, and the capability to innovate while challenging traditional ways of doing business.
Will gain experience developing capabilities to build diverse and inclusive teams with high levels of engagement, including mentoring and coaching.
Work closely with the company lead and other functional managers supporting Northrop employees on the National Team. May work with directors and managers of other engineering disciplines, program directors and program managers.
Champion change within the organization, to achieve competitive advantage for the business.
Supervisory or management responsibilities for projects engaged in research and/or product development in more than one engineering discipline.
Operate in a team environment and collaborate across the organization as required to accomplish the team goals
Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience, or a Master’s Degree and 3 years of related experience, or 0 years of experience with a PhD.
US Citizenship is required with the ability to obtain and maintain an Active DoD Secret Clearance to start.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrate a broad skill set that is balanced between interpersonal, business, and technical capabilities.
Previous experience in Personnel or Technical Leadership roles
MS in Engineering/STEM or MBA
Experience in modeling and simulation or model-based systems engineering applied to air and missile defense
Active Secret clearance
Proven technical management experience preferably in either program IPT, R&D or Advanced Systems, technology, and/ or functional environments
Experience effectively leading diverse technical teams across multiple locations
Working knowledge of Staffing, Engineering Metrics and Training resources, processes, and tools
Current; or previous Natonal Team experience
Salary Range: $134,400 USD – $201,600 USD
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
