Northrop Grumman in Azusa, CA is seeking a Sr. Staff (Level 6) Mission Algorithms Systems Engineer. This role will report on-site daily to our Azusa, CA campus.

The Mission Algorithms Systems Engineer applies engineering principles to design, implement, and enhance algorithms for the near real-time processing of Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) data to estimate state and related tactical parameters for event classes of interest to the warfighter.  Works with a highly capable software development team to maintain and enhance the Space Awareness and Global Exploitation (SAGE) processing system and similar systems.

Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal.

Key Responsibilities:

Develops or enhances critical algorithms that classify events, estimate trajectories and current state, and generate relevant tactical parameters for presentation to system operators
Serves as subject-matter expert for the “Walker” event classes, interacting with program management and government customers to identify new/improved capabilities for development
Prototypes new/enhanced algorithms in Matlab, Python, or C++ to demonstrate performance; performs or supports integration into operational software as C++
Performs regular analysis and review of real-world events to assess algorithm performance and identify and resolve deficiencies

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline and 16 years of professional/military engineering experience, OR a Master’s Degree in a STEM field & 14 years of related engineering experience, OR a PhD in a STEM field & 11 years of related engineering experience
Familiarity with principles of orbital and atmospheric flight dynamics
Familiarity with Matlab, Python, and C++ programming languages
Current & active DoD secret security clearance

Preferred qualification

Top Secret clearance with ability to obtain SCI
20+ years of related engineering experience

Salary Range: $178,700 USD – $268,100 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
