This is an UNPAID internship through the DoD SkillBridge Program for transitioning active-duty US military personnel. DoD SkillBridge Internships are available to help transitioning active-duty military personnel gain real-world experience in the work force sometime during their final 180 days of active-duty service. The intern will actively train on meaningful projects and work closely with a mentor and with senior company leadership. HII Mission Technologies (HII-MT) Internship programs are focused on placing transitioning military into internships that require KSAs, Education & Military Training similar to their current or previous military jobs; positions that could easily transition over to a full-time regular and permanent job with HII-MT.
Intern will train as a Standards Compliance Manager with HII-MT, reporting to a designated supervisor, with the goal of learning simulation standards, technologies, and operational functions, including duties at the Distributed Training Operations Center (DTOC). Additionally achieve cross-organizational understanding of the Live, Virtual, Constructive (LVC) team and Program Management fundamentals. Intern will be assigned special projects as needed and will work onsite and remote.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Desired End State (Six-month target)
At end of six months, intern will be able to ensure DTOC DMO networks, hardware and software comply with established Air Force DMO standards. Learn DTOC compliance requirements with Combat Air Forces (CAF), Mobility Air Forces (MAF) and other standards approved and directed by the DoD. Assist in writing, submitting and executing Federated Standards Test Plan (FSTP), Federated Standards Test Report (FSTR). Represent the DTOC at the following working groups: Software Development (SDWG); Classified Standards (CSWG); Standards Implementation (SIWG); Test Planning (TPWG); System Problem Report (SPRWG); and CAF DMO Configuration Control Board (CCB). Including:
– Understand CAF FSTP/FSTR to ensure DTOC meets mission package standards.
– Understand, develop, and execute test plans related to software interoperability with connected training devices, collaborate with Training System Support Centers (TSSC) and issue/respond to System Problem Reports (SPRs) as required.
– Represent DTOC and ANG DMO standards at working groups identified by the Government.
– Represent DTOC and ANG simulation requirements at industry conferences.
– Consult with ANG Staff on OTTI enterprise standards and simulator procurement as required.
– Provide basic level DMO training to all DTOC personnel on annual basis.
– Understand Cross Domain Solutions (CDS) technologies and how DTOC M&S tool kits are affected.
– Understand schedule, performance, and risk id/mitigation on initiatives including systems, tools, equipment, software, facilities and other activities
– Understand profit and loss of a large complex program
– Understand all phases of programs, with primary emphasis on inception (BD)

Phase 1 – Basics / Onsite onboarding / DTOC immersion (45 days)
– In processing, Introductions/office familiarization.
– Intro to the 132d Combat Training Squadron (CTS) and DTOC operations.
– Intro to simulation events and technical management of DTOC networks.
– Overview of Network Operations Center, Network Administration, Systems Administration, Modeling and Simulation, and compliance.
– Discussions with DTOC Leadership on expectations of Standards Compliance Manager position.
Phase 2 – SCARS / Air Force Standards instruction (60 days)
– Review Air Force standards, such as CAF/MAF DMO and Simulator Common Architecture Requirements and Standards (SCARS).
– Standards comparison – understand how they impact DTOC operations.
– Training in working groups
– Assist in writing/reviewing test plans/reports to ensure DTOC compliance standards.
Phase 3 – Guided Business Development (75 days)
– Portfolio review – LVC, C5ISR, and cyber; secure enterprise IT engineering and operations; military training and simulation; logistics management and integrated product support; and fleet maintenance, modernization, repair and sustainment.
– HII-MT existing FEDSIM, IAC MAC contract vehicles, available ceilings for additional revenue generation, and how DoD customers use these pathways to pay for services and products.
– Business Development, Capture Management, and Proposals Response Development
– Standardization practices across various business groups, process options to suit specific needs, and preventing project failures.
Active-Duty Military ONLY within final 180 days of active-duty service. Education and Experience dependent on Program of Instruction.
5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.
Minimum three (3) years in DMO community working with various Air Force and Joint DMO entities, and ensuring Mission Package Standards are complied with
Experience with Cross Domain Solutions (CDS)
Experience bridging Live, Virtual, and Constructive training systems together, maintaining standards
General knowledge of SISO and AF Standards related to Distributive Interactive Simulation (DIS) protocol
Top Secret Security Clearance
CompTIA Security+ Certification
