Collins Aerospace in Ottawa is a world leader in wireless communications networking, with products such as high-data-rate HF/VHF/UHF modems and the Self Configuring Relay Network (SCRN) for ad-hoc wireless networks. We are developing the next generation of HF radios that support significant throughput improvements and ad-hoc networking features, as well as developing Software Defined Radio networking waveforms for customers around the world. We are in need of enthusiastic and creative people and are currently searching for a Principal Systems Engineer to join our team. This role is one of an individual contributor, working under direction of technical leadership.
Primary Responsibilities
Engineering Leadership Role interfacing with Customers, Program Management and Business Development
Ability to drive pursuits, preparation of technical proposals in response to RFI’s and RFP’s
Provide technical direction in-line with business goals
Interfacing with customers to determine project requirements
Customer support and demonstrations
Capable of working with minimal oversight
Knowledge of RF Systems
Fundamentals of antenna systems to analyze link budgets of communications systems
Traditional urban cellular radio propagation model (base-to-mobile) desirable
Other fading channels (HF, VHF mobile) desirable
Link Budget Analysis
Data Communications and networking design and implementation experience
Experience in the design and development of Military Communications systems is desirable
Must have an understanding of the architecture of military RF communications systems
Familiarity and understanding of networking principles and technologies is mandatory
Understanding of ad-hoc networking highly desirable
Familiarity with encryption and the relationships between cryptographic architectures, physical, link and networking layers is desirable
Fading mitigation techniques such as space diversity, time-diversity, polarization diversity and frequency diversity desirable
Knowledge of Forward Error Correction coding is desirable
Familiarity with data-link-protocols, such as ARQ is desirable
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
Experience in training, mentoring, and supporting systems engineers
Familiarity with Analysis, modeling and simulation
Ability to travel up to 25%
Must be a Canadian Citizen
Must either hold or be able to obtain Government of Canada Security Clearance up to the Secret level and access to controlled goods.
