The Collins Communications Department seeks a self-motivated individual to lead our software engineering team. This team develops and supports a wide range of terrestrial COMM and SATCOM products for Air Transport as well as Business and Regional aircraft. The successful candidate will have significant experience with commercial aviation product development and certification. Strong experience in software engineering design, verification, and product sustainment is desired. Experience in leading and building technical teams through development and product support is a must. We are seeking individuals that have a passion for team building, innovation, and project execution. This role is Hybrid in Melbourne, FL with relocation available.
Hybrid: Employees who are working in Hybrid roles will work regularly both onsite and offsite. Ratio of time working onsite will be determined in partnership with your leader.
Job Responsibilities:
Recruit and develop software engineers, build a strong team of motivated and passionate talent to develop our world class products.
Responsible for growing and managing the software and verification skills and technical strategy within the commercial systems COMM and SATCOM portfolios.
May oversee development work being performed by our trusted third party partners or subcontract labor.
Responsible for program performance for cognizant COMM and SATCOM developments and management oversight of day to day operations.
Leverage knowledge of software development and verification processes to provide direction and coaching to employees
Approves work scope for COMM and SATCOM software efforts and cognizant programs.
Ensures compliance to development processes and standard work requirements
Oversees and participates in development of engineering bids to ensure success
May serve as primary engineering focal point to our valued customers
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and 10 years of prior relevant experience OR??
Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years’ experience OR??
In absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience is required?
Must ?be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder
Strong background in engineering within process intensive development environments
Demonstrated experience leading teams (Lead, Project Engineer, Group Manager, etc).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with the ability to interface with program management and executive management.
Strong background in software development, development processes, and verification.
Strong team building skills, both internal and external to the team.
Thrives in a highly demanding and fast paced work environment.
