Summary
The Collins Aerospace Applied Research & Technology organization in Cork, Ireland, seeks a Senior Engineering Manager with demonstrated technical expertise in wireless communications networks to lead the Connected Systems group within our Connected & Real-time Systems Discipline. As a technology leader, the successful candidate will be responsible for project execution, technology creation through transition, and professional development of technical staff. As a member of the Connected & Real-time Systems Discipline leadership, the successful candidate will also contribute to strategic planning, business development, and engagement with our internal and external stakeholders. Our partners include the global Collins Engineering & Technology organization, leading universities, innovative small businesses, and industry peers. Our customers include the Collins strategic business units as well as external government research organizations and global public/private partnerships.
The Connected Systems group is responsible for creating innovative communication & networking solutions for our global commercial aviation customer base. This includes technologies enabling the Collins Autonomous Operations, Connected Ecosystems, and Cabin Experience strategic initiatives.

Key Job Responsibilities
Contribute to a growing research agenda for future aerospace systems within the Collins Aerospace Advanced Technology research community.
Initiate and execute R&D activities within an international research community, including technology development within collaborative multi-national research programs.
Provide competitive advantage for Collins Aerospace business units as part of a multidisciplinary and international team of experts.
Contribute towards technical strategy and business development.
Qualifications & Competencies
Recognized expertise in wireless communications or communications network research & development. The scope includes: Analysis, simulation, and prototyping of modulation, waveform coding, interference management, error correction, and channel estimation techniques for wireless, wired, or optical communication systems, in both indoor and outdoor environments; Dynamic optimization of network architecture & orchestration of resources within high-assurance wireless networks to minimize co-interference or adapt to channel conditions; and Prototyping and evaluation of high-assurance communication systems on high-performance embedded and SDR-based platforms.
Motivated self-starter with a strong enthusiasm to learn and passion for speed and agility.
Well-organized with excellent interpersonal, leadership and communication skills for effective collaboration across a global team
Willing to champion and challenge new technical ideas and adapt to new challenges beyond original field of expertise.
Able to partner with universities, government agencies, national labs, and professional organizations to meet organizational objectives within time and budget constraints.
Education & Experience
A PhD in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, with 5+ years of industrial or postdoctoral experience.
Proven track record of innovation and project execution leadership in an R&D environment, including capturing and executing external science and technology contracts
