Collins Aerospace is searching for an industry leader in technology and engineering principles to fill a role as a Sr. Technical Fellow. This position will help serve the needs of the Collins Aerospace business, at large, through the application of the individual’s technical and leadership skills. Demonstrated technical excellence, innovation, and mentoring are key behaviors that this role demands as they serve in a role that guides, influences, defines, and matures Collins Aerospace and the aerospace industry as a whole.

Three focus areas for Sr. Technical Fellow are Leadership, Innovation, and Mentorship. Examples of typical responsibilities include sponsoring company-wide initiatives to advance product technology, advancing the “state of the art” in industry (e.g. patents, publications, proposals), develop and execute the strategic business plans, be visible externally to represent Collins Aerospace as a leader (e.g. advisory technical committee participation, university faculty affiliation, guest lecturing, STEM outreach activities), contribute expertise to quality assurance reviews and promoting a safety-first culture, engaged in governance of the Technical Fellow community, and developing the next generation of technical leaders within the company.
This Sr. Technical Fellow position will have a Systems engineering discipline, responsible for the collection and harmonization of market requirements and design authority for integrated architectures. This will be achieved by influencing and designing Avionics Systems, Hardware Products, Hardware Components, and Infrastructure Software elements for current and future Collins solutions. The focus will be on implementing IMA (Integrated Modular Architectures) and embedding safety criticality throughout each level of our designs while developing common solutions to meet the needs of our diverse customer base. The responsibilities of this role will have multiple engagements in Collins-wide activities, including processing, displays, graphics, networking, and overall integrated architectures.
Candidates will be able to demonstrate the following: They are recognized for their technical expertise including activities such as differentiated and/or unique expertise, activities within and outside of the nominee’s business unit, recognition/awards, publications, and participation as an expert in company-wide initiatives, government consortiums, and industry committees. Proven technical leadership, such as technology development, delivering on development programs, customer issue resolution, transformation of methods and tools, and a project leadership style that fosters diversity and inclusion. Fellows also provide mentorship to emerging technical talent within the discipline. And finally, the ability to lead initiatives that advance the technical state of the art within critical technical areas of the business. Driving innovation that delivers differentiated competitiveness for Collins Aerospace and in the industry by contributing to the industry body of knowledge through patents, technical publications, and trade secrets.
Primary responsibilities:
Development of cross-SBU technology and/or capability roadmaps
External competitive benchmarking
Development of technology enabled business opportunities
Identification and mitigation of disruptive threats to the business
Development of partnerships to advance Collins capability
Technical leadership to facilitate high quality decisions, product competitiveness, and robust, innovative solutions within the business
Design authority for the creation and execution of displays, computing, and networking solutions & technology roadmaps
Build and leverage relationships across RTX and Collins Aerospace
Provide Mentorship and Governance to the Collins Aerospace Technical Fellow Program
Qualifications/Experience Required:
Successful leadership experience in developing certified flight deck displays
Experience managing technical projects including schedule and Earned Value management, risk management, customer interaction, and briefing executive leadership
Experience with Avionics regulatory and certification requirements: IMA, TSO, ARP-4754, DO-297, DO-160, DO-254, DO-178B/C
Proven record of meeting objectives and commitments
Possess a collaborative way of working that encourages and inspires innovation
Demonstrated success in balancing system performance and business needs
Ability to mentor and support emerging technical talent
Strong communicator, able to interface with the spectrum of individual contributor to senior executive leadership
Ability to travel up to 5% of the year.
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 14 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 12 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 18 years of relevant experience
