Senior Systems Integration Engineer – Mission Systems Autonomy
The Mission Systems Engineering Autonomy & Mission Engineering Solutions Department (AMES) is seeking a dynamic Systems or Software Engineer to support integration activities within our Small Unmanned Aerial Systems (sUAS) business area. The successful candidate will have a passion for innovation and the drive to see new technology and capability mature into systems solutions. This role will be responsible for integration and test of the RapidEdge™ Mission System and associated autonomy for sUAS platforms.
Our systems engineering team touches all aspects and products within the department with opportunities to influence and own forward looking strategic planning, designing roadmaps, and architectures. As a systems-level team, this position has opportunities for direct customer and end user interaction as well as coordination across subsystem teams and stakeholders.
Role Responsibilities:
Demonstrated experience in Lab Management and Network Architecture.
Deployment and test of software builds to the real system hardware (embedded Linux systems, UBoot)
Initial integration of hardware and software elements, including troubleshooting networking and system configuration, including various IP-stack protocols, MIL-STD 1553, serial communications, RF communications, GPS, Linux, network router and switch management, Docker
Getting hands-on and making things work (bash scripting, Python)
Experience with hardware integration, software integration, and system of systems integration
Leading and coordinating small teams including technical aspects as well as program cost and schedule.
Capable of estimating, tracking, and communicating cost, schedule, and risk in support of program earned value metrics
The successful candidate will be part of a distributed team composed of professionals from several disciplines and must have the ability to function well and have strong interpersonal skills. This position requires an individual that can perform with minimal direct supervisory support. As such the candidate must be highly motivated and a self-starter. The ability to coordinate several complex engineering activities while balancing priorities and schedules is a must. This position may require occasional travel (up to 10%).
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations OR Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience OR In absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required
Must be a U.S. Citizen
Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with tools such as JIRA, Git, Subversion, Docker, and requirements management applications.
Experience in integrating and troubleshooting network connectivity issues (e.g., Linux routing, VLANs, good familiarity with IP protocol stack and protocols)
Familiarity with DevSecOps tools and techniques, server management, Java, C, C++ is a plus
Background and/or knowledge of the following technologies is helpful but not required:
UAS Command and Control (C2) Systems
Autonomy algorithms
Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC)
Flight Management Systems (FMS)
Sensor fusion / sensor systems
