Collins Aerospace Aerostructures is looking for a Senior Principal Systems Engineer who will be a specialist for high temperature pneumatic valves and their integration into aircraft engines and nacelles. This role requires expertise in the design of pneumatic valves and will be considered a subject matter expert within the organization. Knowledge of equipment and design engineering along with qualification testing, system validation and verification will be required. Knowledge of propulsion systems and anti-icing systems is strongly preferred.  You will be a focal point of contact for suppliers, customers, and internal leadership.

The position is working in a Hybrid capacity at our Chula Vista CA facility. Relocation assistance is available.

Primary Responsibilities

Manage the requirements, design, and qualification of pneumatic high temperature valves and anti-icing systems
Lead root cause investigations into technical issues for pneumatic valve and other electromechanical components
Communicate with suppliers, external customers, and senior leadership regularly to discuss technical issues and resolution
Lead strategic initiatives to develop future valve and anti-icing system architecture
Visit suppliers as required for process improvements, product enhancements, failure investigations and testing
Lead system architecture, supplier selection and technical assessment for new programs
Establish and mature relationships across departments for technical alignment, problem resolution and customer support (aftermarket, supply chain, program office, finance)
Mentor and coach a multi-disciplined engineering team in a fast-paced environment
Able to travel up to 25% domestically and internationally when circumstances permit
Perform other duties as required

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations
Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years’ experience OR
In absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience is required
Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder
Experience with high temperature pneumatic valves
Able to communicate and make presentations to senior level leadership

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with design and qualification requirements for aircraft propulsion systems
Knowledge regarding turbine engines including compressor stages and bleed air
Experience managing a group of engineers
Experience with high cycle fatigue testing and analysis
Experience with RTCA DO160 testing
Understanding of LEAN/Continuous Improvement
Experience with aerospace control systems
