Reporting to the Engineering Manager the Mechanical Engineer plans, designs and analysis of the construction and use of equipment and parts for aircraft cabin interiors. Performs complex assignments often requiring development of new or improved products/processes/techniques. Assesses feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering tests/products/equipment. The position requires an ability to interpret, on a broad basis, the principles, theories, and concepts of an engineering specialty.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Contributes to successful project completion by participating in the resolution of issues such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of standard material, and difficult coordination requirements.
Coordinates project activities with other operating or engineering units to facilitate participation of appropriate staff in project completion.
Initiates and maintains design data throughout the technical maturity phases.
Provides technical leadership to a group of temporarily assigned engineers and technicians.
Reviews project-related documentation to ensure its accuracy.
Generates artifacts and reports to provide objective evidence of compliance to requirements.
Participates in professional organizations to maintain current knowledge of technical innovations.
Assists in determining project objectives to contribute to the development of a comprehensive project design.
Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree and 5 years related experience OR
Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience OR
In absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required
CAD modeling of parts and constraint assembly, with associated detail drawings and layouts.
ANSI Y14.5 and working familiarity with GDT.
Tolerance stack ups – fits and clearances.
Design of mechanical components, and fastening methods
Experience in technical writing and presentation for SDLR and design reviews, including reports
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Ideal candidate has design experience utilizing Siemens NX CAD software, Teamcenter PLM, Altium or equivalent PCB layout tool.
Preferred product knowledge base includes, but is not limited to, fluid handling equipment such as actuated or manual valves, pumping equipment, high speed blowers or fans, plumbing elements, thin-walled pressure vessels, and fluid/pneumatic seal designs.
Experience with manufacturing processes, but is not limited to machined elements, forging, casting, injection molding, thermal forming, and sheet metal fabrications.
Working knowledge of aerospace materials, processes, and finishes.
Working knowledge of electronic discrete and surface mount components.
Hands-on experience with assembly, troubleshooting, and testing.
