Collins Aerospace has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Pump Design Engineer.  We’re looking for a passionate professional to accept a high level of responsibility within a fast-paced, dynamic environment.  Pump design engineers are responsible for design and analysis of a variety of fuel and oil pumps, including centrifugal, axial piston, vane, and gear pumps.  You would also be responsible for completing new product development design and analysis tasks for one or more pump programs, including driving development activities, while ensuring all technical and regulatory requirements are met.

Primary Responsibilities:

Responsible for completing design and analysis tasks for one or more pump programs, including driving development activities on-schedule and within budget, while ensuring all technical and regulatory requirements are met.
Design support across all phases of the design cycle, concept & optimization, preliminary through detailed design, development, validation, certification, manufacturing, and operational service.
Design new products and processes and improve and maintain existing products to help create better products or processes and ensure that the current and future needs of the business are met.
Design and implement common procedures and standard work across the organization to optimize efficiency and quality.
Develop data and make layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposal.
Resolve design problems of difficult-to-complex scope to ensure project completion.
Review completed layouts and drawings to ensure clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning.
Design mechanical components and assemblies with an emphasis on manufacturability, reliability, and maintainability
Work with suppliers for sizing and selection of supplier design components (valves, EHSV, sensors, and motors)
Evaluate and determine suitability of non-conforming (NCM) products including documentation of rationale.
Validate design models and tools with empirical data from test programs
Be a key participant in root cause investigations
Conduct sustaining activities for fielded products

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations OR
Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience OR
In absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required
Must be a U.S. Citizen

Preferred Qualifications:

Fuel pump design and analysis experience, particularly with centrifugal and axial piston pumps.
Experience evaluating empirical data to validate design tools and reconcile pump design/analysis results with test data.
MATLAB modeling and programming experience.
CFD analysis experience in ANSYS Fluent or STAR-CCM+.
Candidate must excel at communication both in verbal and written formats, with the ability to adapt communication for a wide range of audiences including internal and external customers.
