Collins Aerospace is seeking an experienced Safety and Reliability Engineer to join our Power & Controls Engineering team. Our work supports the development of innovative system solutions for one of the world’s leading Aerospace companies.
This Safety and Reliability engineer position will lead efforts to analyze the system design and establish requirements that drive safety, reliability, and maintainability into the design to ensure that Collins Aerospace products are world class. The position will be responsible for technical development of safety and reliability analyses that demonstrate that the system design meets requirements and serves as evidence for certification and/or acceptance by the regulator or acquiring authority.
Candidates are required to have excellent communication skills to convey technical issues and status in both written and oral form to internal and external customers. The candidate must be adaptable to change, determined to accomplish tasks based on program schedule, collaborate with teammates to make the best decisions, enjoy learning new technologies, be self-motivated and contribute to a positive work environment. The Safety and Reliability engineering field is challenging, unique and dynamic.
Hybrid:
Must be a commutable distance from Windsor Locks, CT, to work a hybrid schedule reporting on-site as needed
Primary Responsibilities:
Perform safety assessments in accordance with ARP4761 or MIL-STD-882E including but not limited to:
System Safety Program Plans (SSPP)
Functional Hazard Assessments (FHA)
Preliminary System Safety Assessments (PSSA)
System Safety Assessments (SSA)
Fault Tree Analyses (FTA)
Common Mode Analyses (CMA)
Review, assess, and influence designs to optimize safety-related metrics to ensure designs incorporate the safety features required to assure that all safety certification requirements are met.
Perform Reliability Assessments in accordance with industry accepted practices including but not limited to:
Reliability Program Plans (RPP)
Reliability predictions to establish Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) estimates and component failure rates. These analyses may utilize industry standards and include field performance of similar equipment when applicable to increase accuracy of the assessment.
Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
Failure Mode, Effects & Criticality Analysis (FMECA)
Contribute to defining specific Safety and Reliability design requirements based on derivation of the customer specification culminating in performing the Safety and Reliability assessment artifacts in accordance with engineering standard work.
Perform Maintainability assessments and support Testability analyses.
Support and/or lead Reliability related tests [Highly Accelerated Life Test (HALT) and Reliability Enhancement Test (RET)] including the development of test procedures and reports, overseeing the conduct of the test, leading failure review board meetings, and defining corrective actions. Typical Reliability related tests include but are not limited to:
Investigate and implement improvements on current standard processes to improve efficiency and quality of both analyses and documentation.
Support integration activities and reviews with internal and external customers.
Perform (as required) bid and proposal activities for future programs.
Travel up to 10%, domestic and Canada
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of relevant experience OR
Advanced Degree in a related field and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience OR
In absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required
Must be a U.S. Citizen
Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience and knowledge in Safety and Reliability engineering, including processes, procedures and tools contained in SAE Aerospace Recommended Practices ARP 4754, ARP 4761, or military safety standards such as MIL-STD-882
Possess Analog and Digital Circuit Design Analysis and/or Mechanical Design Analysis skills
Experience preparing and presenting technical information to peers, all levels of internal management, and to external customers
Working knowledge of aircraft or electronic systems is highly desired
Experience with common spreadsheet, database, and word processing applications such as MS Excel, MS Word, and MS Access highly desirable
Experience with FaultTree+ or similar Fault Tree analysis tools
