Collins Aerospace in Ottawa is a world leader in wireless communications networking, with products such as high-data-rate HF/VHF/UHF modems and the Self Configuring Relay Network (SCRN) for ad-hoc wireless networks. We are developing the next generation of HF radios that support significant throughput improvements and ad-hoc networking features, as well as developing Software Defined Radio networking waveforms for customers around the world. We are in need of enthusiastic and creative people and are currently searching for a Principal Systems Engineer to join our team. This role is one of an individual contributor, working under direction of technical leadership.
Primary Responsibilities:
Expert knowledge of digital signal processing, including
design and implementation of both finite impulse response (FIR) and infinite impulse response (IIR) filters
Power spectrum estimation of random noise and random data signals
Data Communications design and implementation experience (mandatory to have some of this, arguable that the specific mix is negotiable)
Fundamentals of antenna systems to analyze link budgets of communications systems
Link Budget Analysis
Knowledgeable and skilled in the use of RF test equipment
Making RF measurements that require ingenuity to overcome equipment limits (measurement of weak signal in the presence of very strong signal for example)
Automation of testing
Contribute to pursuit order capture, preparation of technical proposals in response to RFI’s and RFP’s
Mentor engineers and technicians.
Basic Qualifications
Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations
Must be a Canadian Citizen
Must either hold or be able to obtain Government of Canada security clearance up to the Secret level and access to controlled goods.
Excellent oral and written communications skills in English.
Preferred Qualifications
Analysis, modeling and simulation skills, experienced Matlab user
Familiarity with RF measurement tools and techniques
C/C++ programming experience desirable
FPGA firmware development desirable
Applied Mathematics skills
Adaptive equalization expertise for time-varying, multipath fading channels desirable
Familiarity with data-link-protocols, such as ARQ is desirable
Knowledge of RF Systems
Traditional urban cellular radio propagation model (base-to-mobile) desirable
Other fading channels (HF, VHF mobile) desirable
Advanced Measurement methods desirable
