Principal Software Engineer – Tactical Solutions (Onsite)

The Secure Processing department develops advanced embedded solutions for aircraft testing, training, and autonomy programs, including cryptographic, networking, and command and control applications. As a project team we work within an interdisciplinary engineering environment which includes hardware, FPGA, and other software teams which are responsible for the design, development, integration and verification of our cross domain and cryptographic solutions.  

The Tactical Solutions Software Team is looking for a skilled software developer with experience in embedded C/C++ software development in a collaborative environment. In this role, you will be expected to take a proactive approach to software architecture and make well-informed design decisions while ensuring the code produced is of high quality, within budget, and within the project timeline.  

As a technical leader on the software development team, you will have a significant impact in guiding the entire software development process, from the initial design phase to the final systems level testing. You will work with written descriptions and Unified Modeling Language (UML) diagrams to create well-formed software designs that meet the needs of the project and the team. Your primary responsibilities will include formulating software requirements, creating clear software designs, implementing robust software architectures. In this role, you will have the opportunity to demonstrate your leadership skills by guiding and coaching your team members. Primary Responsibilities:

Demonstrate embedded C/C++ or Java software engineering through all phases of development. 
Leading and coordinating of Software execution for small teams, including technical aspects as well as program cost and schedule.
​Leading and coordinating the development of technical proposals as well as program level cost estimates during the bid and proposal cycle. 
Ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. 
Capable of estimating, tracking, and communicating cost, schedule, and risk in support of program earned value metrics. 
Demonstrated ability to adapt decision-making style based on the situational circumstances. 
Use personal experience and best practices to identify issues, potential problems, and risk. 

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations OR Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience OR In absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required 
Must be a U.S. Citizen
Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance.  Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements 
Experienced mentoring and providing technical leadership to team members 
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks while balancing priorities and schedules 

Preferred Qualifications: 

Significant experience with multi-threaded real-time embedded applications 
Experience with OOA/D architectures and design patterns 
Capable to lead proposals and bidding exercises utilizing the SEER parametric estimation tool 
Experience with Agile development methodology 
Ability to take on the role of ScrumMaster or Product Owner 
TCP/IP network applications development experience
