Our Windsor Locks facility has an opening for a project engineering position supporting our EVA & Human Surface Mobility Value Stream. The candidate will successfully manage assigned projects and task through significant milestones to provide technically sound products within program schedule and budget. The candidate will assume primary responsibility for project leadership, execution, and customer contact. The candidate will collaborate with a wide variety of functional areas inside and outside the organization to deliver results and be responsive to internal and external customer needs.
Responsibilities:
• Work closely with Program Managers and Program Chiefs to lead the engineering team in the design, development, procurement, build, and qualification efforts required to ensure customer satisfaction with an EVA & Human Surface Mobility product.
• Support engineering activities associated with the analysis, design, and structural testing of thermal control and environmental life support components and assemblies for various aerospace applications including the space suit, NASA’s Crew Exploration Vehicle, NASA’s International Space Station as well other aerospace and satellite platforms. This is both an individual contributor and mentorship level position.
• Deliver against the cost, schedule and technical requirements of the program as defined by the Chief Engineer or IPT leadership in accordance with Standard Work. Deliverables include ensuring execution of Peer and Design reviews, analyses, Validation activities, Verification activities, design documentation (drawings, reports), task cost and schedule performance, etc.
• Develop and implement electrical & mechanical design best practices, processes and procedures within the Standard Work framework to produce consistent results.
• Coordinate and interface across multiple functions within engineering, quality, operations, and the program office to achieve product development milestones, qualification testing, and product build per baselined cost and schedule.
• Participate in the proposal process to develop and review cost estimates and proposal packages where engineering resources are required.
• Monitor and track Earned Value progress as it relates to program milestones and support program actual vs. forecast cost reviews.
Familiarity with Earned Value Methodology experience is preferred. Familiarity with Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) is highly desired. Project Management Professional (PMP) Certificate is a plus.
Project Engineering works directly with the Program Office and Integrated Product Development Teams (IPTs) to create, control, develop, and execute the engineering aspects of the EVA & Crew Support Systems Value Stream. The Project Engineers core responsibilities will include:
Lead investigations and risk assessment reviews, complete with detailed mitigation plans including funding and staffing.
Create technical plans with associated schedules and risk mitigation plans which ensure the timely delivery of error-free engineering products, services, and contract deliverable in strict compliance with company policy and procedures.
Ensure that the requirements of the program’s earned value management system (EVMS) are satisfied through the maintenance of performance metrics against an integrated program master schedule. Included in this activity shall be the institution of an engineering Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), program/project planning targets, completion estimating, and basis of estimate for new activities.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of prior relevant experience OR
Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience OR
In absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required
Experience in Aerospace field is preferred
Electrical-mechanical and/or electrical engineering experience is preferred
Demonstrated ability to work in multidisciplinary teams
Demonstrated ability in project execution
Ability to identify efficiencies and cost opportunities through continuous process improvement
Strong written & verbal communication and presentation skills are essential for this position
Knowledgeable in 3-D CAD modeling fundamentals, stress and fatigue analysis, machine design, and material selection.
Prior experience in aerospace structures and engineering fluid component design.
Knowledge of drawings, geometric tolerancing, and drawing interpretation.
Experience with manufacturing techniques for limited production hardware.
Ability to work within a matrix organization to achieve team and program goals. A positive “can do” attitude, good presentation skills, respect for others, confidence, and patience.
10-25 years’ experience desired.
Must be a U.S. Citizen, must either hold a current US DoD clearance or must be able to obtain and maintain a clearance if required, and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.
