Principal Firmware Design Engineer (Hybrid)

Hybrid: Employees who are working in Hybrid roles will work regularly both onsite and offsite.  Ratio of time working onsite will be determined in partnership with your leader.

Primary Responsibilities:

Collins Aerospace – ISR Systems Princeton is looking for a highly motivated Firmware Design Engineer.  This design engineer will be a key member of a development team working with new and existing infrared camera and instrument products.  The position’s primary responsibility will be the detailed design of camera and system control firmware. This team member will participate in project planning and estimation for new proposals, architect solutions, execute the designs and verify proper operation via simulation and lab debug of the final product. The individual will participation in design reviews and work closely with hardware and software design engineers in debugging activities at the group level. They will also contribute to the design and implementation of novel image processing and other algorithms.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations OR Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience OR In absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required 
Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder
Experience in developing with Intel and/or Microchip FPGAs
Strong coding skills in VHDL
Proficient in generating timing constraints to ensure designs operate reliably
Ability to derive firmware-centric requirements from customer requirements and create comprehensive verification plans
Ability to read hardware schematics and interpret device datasheets
Experience with common communications interfaces such as (Q)SPI, I2C, UART, LVDS, SERDES etc.
Knowledge of Camera/Video system interfaces such as MIPI, USB, Ethernet, Cameralink, parallel etc.
Good communications and interpersonal skills
Comfortable presenting at design reviews, both formal and informal, to all levels of management.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, plus 8 or more years of experience in developing firmware for embedded systems.
Prior hardware design experience would be helpful.
Ability to follow the flow of C/C++ software is strongly desired.
Some familiarity with Perl or Tcl scripting beneficial.
The position does not require a security clearance but the ability to obtain one is desirable.
