Collins Aerospace is looking for a Manager, Thermoplastic Composites Research & Technology will lead our engineering team in Riverside, CA in the field of thermoplastic composites and automation. Our thermoplastic composite pilot line hosts three major thermoplastic processes: Fiber Placement, Stamp Forming, and Welding of continuous carbon fiber thermoplastic composites, which are being used to develop next generation aerostructures. While this role will focus on thermoplastic composite materials, a candidate with strong depth in thermoset composite materials will also be considered.

*Position is 100% onsite at the Riverside, CA facility*

Primary Responsibilities

Leading a team of five to ten engineers and technicians on-site supporting daily process development. A hybrid work schedule will not be possible for this position. Both people management skills and technical achievement will be key characteristics of this leader.

Leading engineering development of continuous carbon fiber reinforced structural thermoplastic composite materials & processes for product improvements and new programs.  This includes all aspects of coordinating the materials & processes development, materials & process characterization, test plans, schedule input, budget input, problem solving, data analysis, materials & processes specification creation, reporting of technical status/results and production implementation support.

Interacting between Engineering groups (programs, chief engineer office, aftermarket, manufacturing/operations, facilities, supply chain, test labs, suppliers and customers); ensuring on-time and quality execution of materials & process project tasks and deliverables.

Managing maintenance of current equipment and procuring new equipment for process development

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.

Experience in the field of composite process development or support is required, ideally with a strong focus on composite aerostructures.

Current direct management experience.

Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with thermal/stamp forming, joining processes, and process automation of continuous fiber thermoplastic composites.

Knowledge of composite material & processing specifications for Aerospace industry.

Knowledge of Engineering drawings & Design tools such as Catia (or equivalent) and statistical data analysis methods.

The salary range for this role is 94,000 USD – 196,000 USD; however, Raytheon Technologies considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, education/training, and key skills.
