An exciting new vacancy has arisen at Collins Aerospace and we are seeking an Electronics Team (Discipline) Manager to join our engineering teams in Plymouth or Bristol.
Role Overview:
The Electronics Team (Discipline) Manager is responsible for managing and developing the electronics team within the overall engineering team. The Electronics Team is responsible for delivering the electronic design and development inputs into our engineering development programmes. This role forms an active part of the engineering management team delivering both line management and development project tasks; with the anticipated effort being split 25/75 respectively.
The role will report to the Engineering Director
Line Management Responsibilities:
Develop the functions capacity to meet current and future project demands of the business for the team
Allocation of team individuals to development projects in conjunction with the Engineering Programme Manager and Project Engineers
Identify and address recruitment needs and recruit as appropriate to achieve capacity & skill requirements
Interface with Process Discipline Chiefs and in particular the Electronics Discipline Chief
Management of Autotime – booked hours / holiday / sickness management
Participate in resourcing reviews with programme managers to actively manage resourcing conflicts, whilst maintaining engineering support to other business functions
Develop individuals to enable career opportunities and deliver future needs including:
o Skills and training
o Training & development plans
o Performance Connections
o Pulse Survey action plans
Supporting the Engineering Director in the delivery of various tasks including:
o Management reviews
o Team workshops
o Talent management reviews
o Risk management reviews
Development Project Responsibilities:
The Electronics Discipline Manager will also operate as an active member of our development project teams delivering electronic design expertise and knowledge to complex projects
This part of the role will also provide input into the planning and estimation of the electronics tasks required for projects that support bids and proposals working with the Electronics Discipline Chief
The role may require travel to both of the UK sites and may also include travel to foreign customer sites to support technical meetings, trials and programme reviews.
Basic Requirements:
Ability to lead and direct a team to deliver its responsibilities for the business
Ability to manage a team of engineers spread across different working sites
Ability to project manage the tasks and activities that the team is responsible for
Ability to develop the careers of individuals within teams
Experience working in an engineering role on product design, test and verification to military, aerospace and commercial standards.
Experience of the New Product Introduction (NPI) lifecycle with a particular focus on electronics design and development, DO254, PCB layout and miniaturisation.
Applicants must have a minimum of a 2.1 Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics Engineering or a similar Engineering discipline or equivalent demonstrable knowledge and/or experience.
