Winter Operations Manager

       

The Winter Operations Manager deploys to McMurdo Station during the Austral Winter Season (February through October)

Position

Responsibilities:

Responsible for implementing and maintaining a safe workplace program and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.
Provides work direction and supervision for Vehicle Maintenance Facility, Fleet Operations, Fuels, Traverse, AGE operations, and Fire Department.
Provides onsite management of station operations in coordination with and as directed by the McMurdo Operations Manager, Area Manager and Amentum Operations Manager.
In collaboration with station leadership, fills key roles during EOC (Emergency Operation Center) callouts, mass casualty incidents and training exercises.
Coordinates the efforts of multiple departments, including non-Amentum entities such as Waste and Haz-Waste, for all efforts related to winter flight operations.
Provides local operations oversight for non-Amentum entities Six Mile and Gan-A’Yoo, in support of the McMurdo Operations and ASC Operations Managers.
Performs the duties of the Airfield Manager throughout the winter season.
Provides administrative continuity by documenting current events and by maintaining historical and current files.
Provides technical continuity and operational knowledge of the station.
Conducts all operations in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and partners with Amentum leadership to update those SOPs as necessary.
Assists the Amentum Operations Manager in developing annual labor and material budgets for McMurdo Station Operations.
Monitors actual progress against planned schedules and issues reports in accordance with ASC procedures. Coordinates logistical support with appropriate logistics personnel as directed by the Area Manager/Operations Manager.
Ensures ASC logistics procedures are followed during winter season.
Implements and enforces ASC’s safety, environmental and health programs in collaboration with ASC’s EHS Lead.
Performs duties in support of Operations Division metrics.
Trains and orients subordinate employees on performance, documentation and activities that affect the achievement Operations Division metrics.
Supports the achievement of ASC metrics, whether metrics can be directly or indirectly, effected by this position’s activities.
Provides direct support, using staff resources, if necessary, to the achievement of all metrics related to ASC.
Complies with all ASC Environmental Health & Safety, and Quality Assurance, requirements and goals. Provides documentation to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate and legal documentation.
Ensures that all subordinate employees are trained and understand ASC Environmental Health & Safety, and Quality Assurance, requirements and goals. Plans safety training programs in liaison with EH&S. Maintain documentation as necessary to meet these requirements.
Works to achieve ASC goals and contractual commitments.
Handles confidential matters in accordance with management policy.
Performs other duties as required.  

Required Education, Experience, Certificates and Licenses:

BA/BS degree in engineering, business administration or related field is required. Four years additional relevant work experience will be accepted in lieu of a degree.
A minimum of four years of diversified experience in operations management, preferably in those fields requiring practical knowledge of facilities maintenance and operation, and logistics.

Preferred:

A career record demonstrating the ability to work with and independently manage a multiple skilled work force preferred.

Physical and/or Other

Requirements:

Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods
Successful completion of Medical and Dental examinations required by the NSF for deployment to Antarctica
Successful completion of drug screening and background check required by employer
Successful completion of Federal Background Check required by the NSF

Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum as required by the position.

Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors in extreme cold as required by the position.
Must participate in community programs, such as “house-mouse” (chores) , “daisy-picking” (cleaning-up around the station) , recycling efforts & safety objectives.
Valid Driver’s License issued in the United States
